I Make 6 Figures, Do You Believe Me?

March 27, 2009

I make 6 figures, do you believe me?

I recently read comments from a group of marketers proclaiming guru status of another, suggesting that this person makes more than 6 figures, and basically, we should all bow down and worship at their feet, doing everything they instruct us to.

The problem is, I know this person, and although they are certainly a nice person, a hard worker, they are certainly not at guru status, at least not yet, and I seriously question the 6 figure claim.

All advertising, online and offline, is hoopla, no where do we see it more than in this Internet marketing arena. Hoopla is excitement, hype, publicity, action, activity, brouhaha, bustle, buzz, commotion, drama, elation, emotion …

I make 6 figures, do you believe me?

Take a 360 look, anecdotes are flying in from all directions.  Quick, heads up, take cover, before you are blind sided.  It’s the best in the whole world!  Oh really.

Actions speak louder than words.  A wise man sees through all the hoopla.  Anecdotes, nice, but I prefer that which can be measured and verified.

Change the 1 to your account number and it’s ready for you to promote your TrafficHoopla to the world.

Why?  To get signup’s.  Why?  Because these signups will potentially follow you in all the advertising resources within.  And how will this help you?  These resouces will greatly reward you for referring others, mostly by a percentage of traffic they earn.  Do this, constantly, over the long haul, and you can build significant, and going daily traffic.

Bill, bonjour… well five of the six figures could be $0.01² – just my 2 cents worth ;)

Meanwhile, one of the most reliable ways that I have found of building links is to syndicate my blog with other like minded individuals. If you look at the Google Friend Connect panel on my blog, you will see that I (presently) have 55 “Friends”; of these, 47 are people with whom I syndicate.

Whenever one of us in the group makes a new post, we, as a group, have agreed to give some credibility to that post on one or more of the social media web sites. This either by way of a save, digg, clip, etc., and sometimes a comment on those social web sites.

We only perform these actions provided that the content posted meets our own, individual, sense of quality.

However, all this social activity by our group serves to increase search engine visibility and rankings, which in turn means that our posts receive greater attention by people outside our group (i.e. traffic).

Every time I post, I get more social activity and visibility – more visibility = more traffic = more visibility

As one of my colleagues puts it “We have a Perpetual Internet Traffic Machine”… though I wouldn’t want to put a figure on it. :)

“I prefer that which can be measured and verified.”

Spoken like a true Mathematician. (Or was that David, I always forget)

Certainly there is some truth to the idea that emotion can drive one to action. However, once the action begins, there must be some logic and reasoning to justify the action. (Math was my favourite subject in school)

Thanks to your teachings I have been able to read between the lines and wade through all the brouhaha.

Whenever I do decide to ‘follow’ someone it is because there had to be some firm substance underneath all the goop.
