Do Yourself A Favor

February 9, 2009

A poor, hungry young man sat moping on a bridge, watching a group of fisherman.  Looking into a basket and seeing a bunch of fish nearby, the young man said, “Boy, if I had a mess of fish like that, I’d be in good shape.  I’d sell them and buy some cloths and something to eat.”

“I’ll give you that many fish if you do a small favor for me,” a fisherman replied.

“Sure.”

“Tend this line for me awhile.  I’ve got some errands to do up the street,” said the older man.

The young man gladly accepted the offer.  As he tended the man’s pole, the fish were really biting, and he reeled in one fish after another.  It wasn’t long before he was smiling, enjoying the activity.

When the older man returned, he said, “I want to give you the fish I promised.  Here, take all the fish you caught.  But I also want to give you a piece of advice.  The next time you’re in need, don’t waste time daydreaming and wishing for what could be.  Get busy, cast the line yourself, and make something happen.”

Just one thing wrong there, you need your own line to cast. But I understand where you’re coming from.

I really enjoyed the story, as much because it demonstrated a positive humanity, as for the obvious moral and lesson.

It is a time when we all need more positive and happy endings.

Send us more.

Great Story! the beauty of living in this day and age is that with the internet we have an enormous amount of access to those fishing poles, fishing lines and the fish and the people willing to buy your catch of the day.
I Luv living in the Twentieth Century and it’s only going to get easier in the future to make money.

Yes very apt and very true.

Hmmm, I agree to a certain extent. The young guy was able and capable of doing the fishing for himself, but he needed the tool to do it with. There are specific times in life that a person, young or old, does not have the means to purchase even the necessites for survival. Right now many people in the world, some very close to us, are going through something very similar. It is at those times in need when someone in a better position can do their sharing with those who need the most. It will be their opportunity to give back. In return, they could probably duplicate their efforts by being able to get even more fishing poles, or vice versa.

Good message, I like that. You have the instrument, get to work, if you do something, bridge are open.

Hey Folks,
That story pretty much says it all. If you just wish for something that’s what it will always be. A WISH.But if you go after that wish 110% ,it just might come true.

I will respond with a dialogue joke which I’m founding to be more representative to
the general Internet experience (especially mine).

Mother: – “My little Jack, your sister has blamed on you because, since
she begs your kindness, you refused to share the plate of cherries
with her. Moreover, you have eaten all and you left her only the cores…
Well, how can you be so cruel ?”

Little Jack: “Mommy, I’m so sorry for this, but it was not only my fault. I have
had a clear explanation with her, about all these cores in order to
spread off on the back of our garden.
Then, she could have had to eat much more that a single plate,
plus making a fortune, and I should not have any more pretends from
her future winnings !”

My conclusion: unfortunately, there is not at all
such an Internet-Big-Mother with a bleeding, broken heart.

It is true to some extent. Howevermuch you are prepared to do something for yourself, there has to someone out there to show you the path. What I notice is that most of the supposed to GURUS are out ther for your money. They promise so much and offer nothing after you have made the payment.
In your story therewas the old man to show the path

Good and interesting story tale.
But we must have the tools and means to get it right.

Too we need the resources in order to succeed.
